Chabrol did lots of great thrillers , often Hitchcock inspired – he’s probably the most accessible New Wave director for that reason . Of the films in the set , watch Cop au Vin then it’s sequel Inspector Lavardin , and suggest Torment , Betty , then Madame Bovary .

Early films like Le Beau Serge 1958 , Les Bonnes Femmes 1960 , Landru 1963
Had a rough period in the early to mid sixties , he even did a few Bond like spy films , but Le Scandale / The Champagne Murders 1967 and La Decade Prodigieuse / Ten Days Wonder 1971 both have Anthony Perkins and Orson Welles , and have English versions .
