The Old Man: The Movie ( original title:  Vanamehe Film ), is a weird flick. I mean REALLY weird. Take the charming, family-friendly stop motion animation of Aardman's  Wallace and Gromit  films and turn that on its head, throw in adult humor, F-words, truly bizarre set pieces and interactions, and then filter that through Euro-culture and you end up with what we have here.  The Old Man is a web series from Estonia (north of Latvia, south of Finland) that follows the exploits of a grumpy old farmer who lives in the country and is occasionally visited by his grandchildren. The web shorts that inspired the film are dark, strange, and a little sardonic. Exhibit A: in one short, The Old Man goes to his barn one freezing cold night to discover that his cow is in the middle of birthing a calf, but the calf seems stuck. He pulls it out and looks at the warm birthing cavity, then climbs inside for warmth, then falls asleep. The next day, he awakes to find himself freezi...

What is real and what is false? 1998's The Last Broadcast  is a found footage film that asks this question and holds a microscope up to the then-nascent World Wide Web and the burgeoning internet technology that was just starting to trickle down to the average consumer. Told in a documentary, true crime style, The Last Broadcast recounts the mysterious deaths of local public access TV show hosts as they go in search of the mythical Jersey Devil in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. Of the group that went into the woods on that fateful day, only one came back out, covered in the blood of his companions. Was it murder, or something far more sinister? The film seeks to uncover the truth of what really happened and separate fact from fiction. The Last Broadcast  is a horror film, but those expecting true terror are going to be disappointed. It's a slow burn with a focus on investigation and forensics that feels more like an episode of  Dateline . The film is really about...

History seems to have forgotten Fanny, an all-female hard rock band that formed in the late sixties and may be remembered as the first "girl group" to play their own instruments and release a full rock and roll album. The story of these cheekily-named rock and roll pioneers has never really been told, an injustice that David Bowie (who dated a member of the band for a year) sought to rectify twenty years ago. It's taken this long for the story of Fanny to finally be told, thanks to this new documentary from writer/director Bobbi Jo Hart.  The members of the band guide us through their formative years, with sisters Jean and June Millington recalling their youth as Filipino immigrants being raised in America during a time of civil unrest, through the early growing pains of the band, and finally to a breakup at the peak of the group's power.
