The final issue of Bubba Ho-Tep and the Cosmic Blood-Suckers  leaves us wanting more.

At last, the penultimate chapter of Bubba Ho-Tep and the Cosmic Blood-Suckers  has arrived from IDW Publishing! For those just joining us, creator Joe R. Lansdale's fun and irreverent premise blends Elvis, the seventies, and a whole bevy of supernatural forces that would annihilate us all if not for the good work being done by The King and a small band of defenders. The character was introduced in a novella by Lansdale that saw an elderly Elvis (years after faking his death) facing off against evil in the most unlikely of places, and that story was adapted into a feature film in 2002 that was directed by Don Coscarelli and starred Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis. IDW's 2018 comic dials the clock back some years to the days when Mr. Presley was still taking care of business in a flash. He's a little over the hill, maybe, but he's still got a lot of diesel in the tank.

Let's dive into the Erik Larsen/David Michelinie Spider-Man omnibus! Whether you love '90s comics or hate  them, it's hard not to have an opinion about them, and these issues of Amazing Spider-Man are a prime example of everything that made that era for comics so controversial. Right after the final issue in this omnibus, Larsen would go on to create and publish his own creation, Savage Dragon, for Image Comics, becoming a household name and an entrepreneur! But his rise to comic book artist super-stardom all began here in the pages of Spidey for Marvel Comics! From Venom to Doctor Doom to the Sinister Six, Erik Larsen drew (and later wrote) one of the defining runs for the character. Of course, the art wouldn't mean anything without fantastic script work from David Michelinie, one of the great comic book creators. We'll discuss that and more in this video review of the Amazing Spider-Man omnibus of Erik Larsen!

The Comic Book Savant sent us a package of funny books, and we have no idea what's inside! Tune in to see what the comics are and if your humble host has ever heard of them! There will be impressions done poorly, references to comic book creators who may not be working in the business anymore, and lots of facial expressions your dad makes when he's confused.

This past week brought some really interesting news about a new partnership between DC Comics (a subsidiary of Warner Brothers) and the retail GIANT (pun intended) Walmart. Fans of Batman, Superman, Justice League, Wonder Woman, and Teen Titans will soon have a reason to hit up their neighborhood Walmart for exclusive stories from Brian MIchael Bendis, Tom King, Andy Kubert, Amanda Conner, and Jimmy Palmiotti. In this video, we take a look at the "digital vs physical" debate, but this time with a focus on comics. Along the way, you'll get my honest take on digital comic book services like Marvel Unlimited and Comixology as well as my assessment of their strengths and weaknesses. Then we dive headfirst into a look at the state of the comic book industry as a whole. Is it in good shape? Is it in trouble? OMG, ARE COMICS DYING?! What you don't know could harm you! On second thought, you'll be fine. We finish the video with a look at the cost of fandom, gate-keeping (*gasp*), and the changing face of collecting. As always, this video is a little bit grumpy, a little bit funny (hopefully), but always totally honest.

Here's a look at some of my favorite Spider-Man stories over the years. This isn't a "best of" list, and it isn't a list of books that are critically acclaimed. This is a personal list of Spidey stories that I love and that have had a positive impact on my fandom over the years.

The Legends of Luke Skywalker  by Ken Liu is one of several books that comprise the "Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, " a wave of fiction meant to build anticipation for the movie and give readers some clues as to what has been happening off-screen. They also introduce characters, concepts, and locations that will be important in the movie itself. The fiction books (there are also activity and coloring books) cover four different age ranges: adult, young adult, junior, and young reader. This book falls under the junior line, meaning it's probably geared toward pre-teens and early teens. None of that matters when you're a Star Wars fan eager to get your hands on fresh content, though, especially concerning a character that everyone wanted to see more of in the sequel trilogy of films.
