1988's My Stepmother is an Alien  is a very strange movie that could only have been made in the 1980s. Part lusty sex comedy, part sincere family tale, it never really figures out what it wants to be. Its greatest success, and the reason to view the movie all these years later, is for the powerhouse performance from Kim Basinger. Coming just two years after her steamy, career-making turn in 9 1/2 Weeks , this movie takes a pretty big risk on Basinger, who must not only look stunning, but also be funny. Her comedic skills were not a known quantity in 1988, but lucky for us, she's hilarious. Playing up the fish-out-of-water (or alien-out-of-space) theme perfectly, Basinger soars as an intergalactic being who must convince a physicist to share his research with her so she can save her cosmic home. In this Toy Talk, we discuss the quest for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Origins from Mattel, The Wal-Mart-exclusive Real Ghostbusters retro line, NECA's Toony Terrors, which depict horror icons in cartoon-styled plastic, and even the newly relaunched Care Bears plushes that have appeared back on store shelves! All this, plus a rant against scalpers and the frustrations of store exclusives and short-packed figures.

Just hours ago, Jason Reitman (the son of  Ghostbusters - I-and-II  director Ivan Reitman and an established filmmaker in his own right) quietly dropped this teaser trailer for a new Ghostbusters movie that he's directing. We don't know much, other than it will take place in the same timeline as the first two classic films and that it's being released summer of 2020. I have been very skeptical of Sony's attempt to resurrect this beloved eighties franchise, but I have to say this teaser trailer gave me goosebumps. The music, the lighting, even the font of the text just feels like Ghostbusters.  What do you guys think? #GB20
