Cereal At Midnight

Die-hard Marvel fans are likely familiar with Albert Pyun's CAPTAIN AMERICA movie, but few have seen his drastically-different DIRECTOR'S CUT. In this episode, Heath and Brian Krey discuss the differences between the two versions and whether or not this is a lost Marvel classic.  More with Brian Krey:  The Alpha Video Interview Brain-Bending Cinematic Oddities A Lifetime of Comics Fandom with Brian Krey A Cornucopia of Conversation with Brian Krey Overlords of the UFO with Brian Krey Check out Brian's work at Alpha Video here **************************************************************** Become a Member and unlock exclusive and ad free videos, early access, and much more at  Patreon.com/CerealAtMidnight  or through YouTube Memberships at  https://www.youtube.com/@CerealAtMidnight/membership **************************************************************** Commentaries:  https://www.cerealatmidnight.com/p/commentaries.html **********************************...

Eisner Award Hall of Fame recipient Don McGregor has spent more than 50 years in comics, writing for Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Topps, Eclipse, Warren, and many more. Without his foundational work on Black Panther, the blockbuster Marvel movies would not exist. In this interview, Don discusses his career and what's next.  *Note: the video version of this podcast episode is a Cereal At Midnight Members Exclusive.  Listen to the audio version  here , or wherever you get your podcasts! **************************************************************** Become a Member and unlock exclusive and ad free videos, early access, and much more at Patreon.com/CerealAtMidnight or through YouTube Memberships at  https://www.youtube.com/@CerealAtMidnight/membership **************************************************************** Commentaries:  https://www.cerealatmidnight.com/p/commentaries.html **************************************************************** Need collecting storage...

In the inaugural edition of DOLLAR BIN DIVER, I take a look at the four-issue comic book series AVENGERS: THE TERMINATRIX OBJECTIVE! It's a clash across time as Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America face off against Thunderstrike, War Machine, and U.S. Agent in the year 9999 in a battle that could only come from the 1990s! Hey, it only cost $1.

Does The Fantastic Four: First Steps bring back the Marvel magic that the latest movies have been missing? I have a LOT of thoughts. In 2024’s Deadpool and Wolverine , the Merc with the Mouth greets his old Weapon X brethren with the quip: “Welcome to the MCU, by the way. You’re joining at a bit of a low point.” It’s a moment of self-awareness from a character who constantly breaks the fourth wall, but Marvel has been doing this more and more over the last few years, acknowledging the fact that these movies, which once felt fresh and exciting, have now become routine.  So it actually doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Thunderbolts* sees our anti-heroes taking on the ultimate big bad, depression itself. Okay, sure, that depression manifests itself through the actions of a powerful entity that’s new to the MCU, though rooted in Marvel comics history. But in a lot of ways, Thunderbolts* mines the same existential ennui that has made Matt Reeves’ The Batman a favorite among Millennials. In the latest MCU adventure, our characters sigh deeply and speak about how they’re simply going through the motions. It’s ...

Deadpool & Wolverine is less a movie and more a collection of fan service, references, and easter eggs. At the same time, it's a shot in the arm for the flagging Marvel Cinematic Universe, which really should have ended (or at least gone into hibernation) following Avengers: Endgame. Listen, everyone knows the score here: Deadpool exists to break the fourth wall and offering meta commentary on the experience of the film as it happens. It's both refreshing and exhausting in equal portions, but the constant inside jokes that call out everything from other Ryan Reynolds movies to the Disney purchase of Fox to deep cuts for comic book aficionados effectively render non-stop dopamine hits for the viewer that keep things moving along and distract us from the shortcomings of the story. Take out all the fun references and what we're left with isn't much: Deadpool's reality is collapsing because Logan sacrificed himself a few years ago (in 2017's LOGAN, natch), and n...

It can be hard to separate movies from the hype machine. Take Morbius , for instance: the film was originally slated for release almost two years ago, before a global pandemic caused not one, not two, but SIX release delays. Now, many months after those first teaser trailers and who knows how many rewrites and reshoots, the full movie has opened in theaters to lackluster critical reviews and poor word of mouth.  But you know what? I like Morbius, and here's why. Jared Leto stars as Michael Morbius, a reclusive doctor with a disease that has left him nearly crippled, but a mind that is sharp and eager to help the helpless. As a last ditch effort to find a cure for his illness, he resorts to an experimental and dangerous procedure involving the DNA of vampire bats. Because this is a comic book movie, he's granted bat-like powers that include sonar, gliding ability, and super strength. But gifts come with a price, and for Morbius, the cost is an insatiable thirst for human blood....
